Location of Offices
The Students' Union office at Downtown Campus is located in the space above the coffee shop in the main mall. The Students' Union office at Broadway Campus is located next to security on the second floor.
Courtesy Telephones
There are free phones provided by the Students' Unions at the Union’s offices at each campus.
Please note that there is a three-minute limit. For longer calls please use one of the pay phones located on campus.
Fast-Trax Stickers
The Fast-Trax sticker entitles full time students with a one-zone bus pass to travel across all three zones. The Unions sell the Fast-Trax sticker for $2.50. The sticker is attached to your valid student card and is good for the length of your program or until August 31, 2011.
Fax Services
The Students' Union offers a local and long distance fax service students. Prices vary depending on where you are faxing and how many pages you are sending. The Unions also receives faxes for students. At the Downtown Campus the fax number is (604) 443-8397. At the Broadway Campus the fax number is 604-871-7149. Please make sure that incoming faxes are clearly marked with the recipient's name.
Housing and Employment Boards
The Students' Unions maintain housing and employment bulletin boards. At the Downtown Campus the boards are in the main mall beneath the Union office. At the Broadway Campus the boards are located in the cafeteria. If you wish to place a notice please speak to someone in the Unions' offices.
International Student Identity Card (ISIC)
As a member of the Canadian Federation of Students you are entitled to receive this internationally recognized student card, free of charge. Non-members must pay $16. To be eligible for an ISIC, you must be a full-time student.
Please bring a small photo of yourself and proof of your full-time status to apply for the Card at the Unions' offices, if you do not have a photo you can have one taken at the Students' Union offices for $2.00. The Card gives you a 25% discount of Greyhound Bus, 30% discount on Via Rail and discounts on flights (both domestic and international). The Card also gives you discounts on accommodation, entertainment and food within your destination country or city.
Lock Rental Service – Downtown Campus
The Union offers a lock rental service for students. The lock is free, but requires a $10 deposit that will be returned when you return the lock at the end of your program. Drop by the Union office if you need a lock.
Please note that lockers are assigned by department, not by the Students' Union.
Locker Rental Service – Broadway Campus
A limited number of lockers are available for rent at the beginning of each semester on a first come, first serve basis. Sorry, there are no waiting lists. Cost of the rental for one semester is $10 or $20 for the entire year. Students can also receive a lock by providing a $10 deposit. The deposit will be retuned to you when you return the lock.
Bike Locker Service – Broadway Campus
A limited number of fobs are available for rental at the beginning of each semester on a first come, first serve basis. The bike locker area is located off Keith Drive, across from the community garden. Sorry, there are no waiting lists. Cost of the rental for is $10 for the entire year. The deposit will be retuned to you when you return the lock.
Please note that motorized bikes are not permitted in the bike locker space.
Microwaves
The Unions provide microwaves for student use. At the Downtown Campus the microwaves are located in the Student' Lounge (located in the cafeteria). At the Broadway the microwaves are located in the cafeteria and next to the coffee shops. Please make sure that you clean them after use.
Photocopy Services
The Union provides photocopying services for students. Prices vary depending on the size of paper and the number of copies. Colour copies are also available.
Student Saver Discount Card
The Student Saver Card is a free discount card for members of the Canadian Federation of Students. This card gives discounts to students at local restaurants, stores and services. Members Handbook/Dayplanner
The Union provides free of charge your student handbook/dayplanner. You can pick them up in the Union's offices. In addition to providing you with a calendar to plan your activities and schedule homework and tests your handbook/dayplanner contains useful information about your students' union, the Canadian Federation of Students and other issues that may be important to you as a student.
Students' Lounge – Downtown Campus
The Union maintains the Students' Lounge inside the Cafeteria. There are microwaves and information for students' use. Please keep the lounge clean and tidy so that all students can enjoy this space.
Ombudsman
As a service to its members, the Students' Union operates the Office of the Ombudsman. An advocate for students, the Ombudsman assists students in policy interpretation and is available for students to discuss their concerns or questions.
If you find yourself in any of the following situations, you may wish to make an appointment to speak to the Ombudsman.
· You believe that you have been treated unfairly by College staff, faculty or administration;
· You believe that you haven't received a fair grade for a course or an assignment;
· You have been called to a meeting by your department and you don't know why;
· You need someone to attend a discipline meeting with you; and/or
· You want to make a complaint under a College policy and you need advice.
The Ombudsman has a comprehensive knowledge of College policies, including Grade Appeal policy, Grievance policy, the Standards of Student Conduct, and the Policy on Board Hearings of Student Appeals.
