In October of 1984, students at the City Centre Campus of Vancouver Community College organised to form the City Centre Students' Association, Local 73 of the Canadian Federation of Students. In June 1992 students at the King Edward Campus organised to form the King Edward Students' Union, Local 76 of the Canadian Federation of Students. In November of 2004, members of the City Centre Students' Association and the King Edward Students' Union overwhelmingly voted to merge a portion of the finances and administration of the two Unions into an umbrella organisation called the Students' Unions of Vancouver Community College. Today the two Students' Unions share administrative costs and work closely together on campaigns and events. The Unions are autonomous from the College and the Boards of Directors are made up entirely of students. The Unions were created to give students a united and independent voice in representing their interests on a variety of decision-making bodies at the College, the provincial and federal government levels. Should you require additional information about you students' union please drop by either office. At the Broadway Campus we are located in room 2662, formally the childcare centre, at the Downtown Campus we are located above the coffee shop, near the Dunsmuir Street entrance to campus.
