Health and Dental Plan

Who’s covered?

You are automatically enrolled into the plan if you:

·       are a member of the Student’s Unions of Vancouver Community College,

·       are in an applicable program,

·       are a full time student,

·       have paid your student fees owed to the College in full, and

·       are under the age of 70.

 

The cost of the plan for a full time qualifying student enrolled on the plan is $277.56 per academic year

 

Opting in to the Plan

If you are in a program that is not enrolled in the Health and Dental plan then you may enroll by visiting the Student’s Union office and filling out a form. Payment is due upon receipt of form. 

Individual Fees: 

Full Year Coverage (September 1st-August 31st)

$399.69*

Winter Coverage (January 1st-August 31st)

$266.46*

What’s covered?

Extended Health includes: 

·       80% coverage on prescription (including oral contraceptives)

·       Vision Care $200 per 24 months

·       Paramedical services such as massage therapy

·       Travel insurance for up to 180 days

 

Please note that the SUVCC Health and Dental Plan does NOT cover your Medical Service Plan (MSP) premiums

 

Dental includes:

·       80% coverage for Basic & Comprehensive Basic Services (including cleanings, fillings, and scaling)

·       80% coverage on Endodontics and Periodontics

Opting Out

If you are already covered by an equivalent Health and Dental plan you may opt out by visiting www.studentplans.ca. If you are an eligible student and have comparable health and or dental coverage you may apply to waive benefits. Each student is given one opportunity to waive benefits under the health and or dental plan each year.

Please note that the Medical Services Plan (MSP) is not considered to be equivalent to the SUVCC Health and Dental Plan.

OPT OUTS are due 30 days after your program start date.This date is strictly enforced.

How to Opt out

The easiest and quickest way to opt out is online at www.studentplans.ca. Alternatively, you can stop by the Student’s Union office to fill out an application form. If your application is approved you will be credited or refunded the monies. There are no exceptions of extensions for students who do not submit their completed application to the Student’s Union by the deadline.
Once your form has been accepted you will not be on the plan as long as you are an eligible student. Please visit the Students' Union office if your comparable coverage is terminated.

Family Opting In

You may enroll your family for an additional amount by completing the enrollment form available at your Students’ Union office. Enrollments are only accepted:

January 3rd – 31st 2011

Black out Period

Claims processing may take up to 2 months while we wait for Vancouver Community College to confirm your enrollment. Any health or dental costs during the black out period will have to be paid up front. You will not be able to use your benefits card. Members should save the receipts for covered costs. After the end of the black out period you will be able to mail in your expense receipts to Green Shield and you will be mailed a reimbursement check for the costs that are covered under the plan. 

Student Benefits Card

Student Benefits Cards are available to download at:  www.onlineservices.greenshield.ca/studentcenter

Click on Forms and ID card and then download your ID card. Print off this card and put your student ID number on the line. This is the card that you will show to the dentist or pharmacist to use your coverage. You will NOT be receiving a card in the mail, this will be your benefits card.  

 

To receive reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses, mail receipts and appropriate documentation to Green Shield Canada. To obtain claim forms please visit http://www.greenshield.ca/studentcenter Claims must be submitted to Green Shield within 12 months of the date the service was rendered.
